RM of St. Peter’s story
The Rural Municipality of St. Peter No. 369 was largely settled in the early 20th century by German-American Roman Catholics who came from Stearns County, Minnesota.
St. Peter's Abbey began in 1903, when seven Benedictine monks arrived under the obedience of Peter Engel, abbot of Saint John's Abbey in Collegeville, Minnesota. The monks established parishes and could serve local congregations because they knew the distinctive Stearns County dialect of German that the settlers spoke.
The RM was incorporated on December 11, 1911. Today the villages of Annaheim, Englefeld, Lake Lenore, St. Gregor and Muenster lie within its boundaries, and the RM office is in Annaheim.
